Misha Kathirgamanthan
Nominated Individual / Director
When did you get involved with the home:
We took over Treetops Care Home in January 2023. Prior to this we have been running Wychdene Care Home in Broadstairs since January 2022.
I have been in healthcare since 2006 and working as a NHS doctor since 2013. I have always enjoyed caring for individuals, particularly those over 65 years.
Little bit about yourself (including skills):
I love looking after people and my parents have always instilled a hard work ethic within me from a young age. Initially I thought becoming a doctor would fulfil my dreams, but I have always wanted more accountability and the chance to provide change and better care. This is hard in the NHS as it is such a big organisation that any form of change has to go through so many levels and can take years. Whereas owning care homes has allowed us to make changes more efficiently and enjoy watching the benefits it has to our little community.
What made you want to join the care sector:
I remember doing care home visits on my General Practice rotation and thinking how I wanted to change so many things. Working with my husband, who is far more entrepreneurial, we were able to focus on care homes. I love researching the latest dementia friendly courses, training opportunities and community partnerships. Being a doctor helps me bring a nurturing side to the job as well as thirst to continually improve our environment.
What you love about your care home:
I love that we provide a homely environment to our clients. We genuinely care and it is amazing to see how the staff really do pull together to provide a wonderful environment for our clients.
Most important qualities/values your care home has:
Our motto is ‘Together we make a family’ and we always make the environment welcoming so that we would recommend it to our friends and family.
We as a home are always learning and continue to use all the resources and partnerships, we must continuously improve our care for our clients.
